I stayed with family under their reservations most of the days but also booked part of it myself.
Changing rooms, rentals cars, etc was all really convenient. Staff always let us park temporarily and helped us stay in the same room/manage multiple bookings.
Also had some free activities and discounts for others. Great place to stay, especially if you fly in/out of the Kona airport.

Breakfast at the cafe on the resort was very delicious. As was the food and coffee at the coffee bar outside the cafe. The resort had beautiful views of the coastline especially during sunset. The room was great and fit my family of 3. The resort is very close to the main shopping and dining area on Ali’i Drive. Overall very nice resort, glad we chose to stay here!

Unique property undergoing renovations, rooms and pools are renovated and in good shape. Hotel grounds have great vegetation, Luau was a great family event. Enjoyed watching manta rays at night from property.

We arrived with kids and they loved the pool. They had a nice waterslide and a "beach" at the pool. The staff went out of their way to make some fun activities for the kids. At night-time, the hotel had a manta ray viewing deck where we actually saw some come in to feed. There's multiple companies that will take you just a few hundred yards offshore and get you a really close view of them (best thing we did was go out on one of those boats).

Disappointing Experience at OUTRIGGER Kona Resort and Spa
I stayed at OUTRIGGER Kona Resort and Spa through Expedia, expecting a relaxing vacation with premium amenities as advertised. Unfortunately, the reality was far from what was promised, leading to a very disappointing experience.
Firstly, the spa, a key feature that influenced my decision to book this hotel, was under renovation, a fact not disclosed at the time of booking. The lack of transparency was disheartening. Moreover, a significant part of the hotel was also under renovation, which we were not made aware of beforehand.
The conditions of our Deluxe Suite, particularly the bathrooms, were highly unsatisfactory. The water temperature in the showers was erratic and made it impossible to use both bathrooms simultaneously — a significant inconvenience for my family. Additionally, the poor drainage in the shower, leading to water accumulation, was both uncomfortable and unsanitary.
When I reached out to Expedia for assistance during our stay, the response was disheartening. The lack of support and dismissal of our concerns added to our frustration. It's perplexing and unsatisfactory to be told that Expedia has no responsibility for the hotel's conditions, despite being the booking platform and the intermediary between customers and hotels.
I had high expectations from both OUTRIGGER Kona Resort and Spa and Expedia, but the experience did not meet the standard promised nor justify the price paid.

I love this property! Although it's going through a refurbishment, the staff are amazing and kind. The original hotel dates back to 1969 and has stunning architecture which incorporates the local landscape and brings the sea 'in'. My friend and I were upgraded when we arrived and were given a sea view in the original part of the building, which made us feel like we were back in 'old Hawaii' and in total luxury. We went to bed with the sounds of the sea every night.
I love how we were given re-usable water bottles and there are places to refill on every level of the building. We took these out hiking every day!
The aloha center is a great place for families (everyone) to learn about Hawaiian culture and heritage as well as do some fun crafting. A special shout out and mahalo to Nani who taught us some wonderful things about the island and its wonderful history and culture.
I am looking forward to seeing the new changes when they're done, as they look like they're going to be amazing.
The only fault I can find with the place is that there's kids in the 21 and over pool and there's no adult only hot-tub (packed out with kids in the family area). That, and the toilet paper - the public beaches had better tp in their toilets, which is a little thing, but does send the wrong message.
Overall, I think this has been my favorite hotel to stay in EVER!
Oh, and it's just a short walk around the corner to some outdoor sea adventures, including manta ray feeding, etc.

Amazing place to stay even through the renovation. We will be back with the kids to enjoy the great pool and proximity to the ocean. Off site restaurant selection close by is a bit limited. Great activities and a very friendly, helpful staff. Loved the key wrist bands also.

Tiana at check in desk was awesome! She told me about the outrigger rewards and that I can use it at the Oahu since I’ll be staying at their outrigger and was helpful with any questions I had! The room was clean and I like the 47 voyager lounge that had free breakfast every day and snacks in the evening! They had two separate pools one for adults only and the other one for families! They do charge $25 per night for the parking so keep that in mind. I wish it was on the beach but you can see the ocean from the property
